NBA Functions
The NBA aims to improve and enhance the management of the Australian blood and plasma product sector at a national level and enters into and manages contracts to this end.
Its functions include liasing and gathering information from governments, suppliers and other stakeholders to ensure that all States and Territories have sufficient supply of blood and blood products and related services.
It does this by:

- Negotiating and managing national contracts with suppliers of blood and blood products;
- Supporting policy development and operations within the blood sector, including through transparent evidence-based processes for the assessment of new products;
- Facilitating and developing strategies to encourage appropriate use of blood and blood products in particular, promoting adherence to national safety and quality standards;
- Taking responsibility for national risk contingency planning for the blood sector; and
- Providing corporate and financial management services.
