Blood Sector Performance Benchmarking

The purpose of the “Fresh Blood Products ‘Production Benchmarking and Demand Drivers’” study was to compare and contrast Australian expenditure and production performance on fresh blood products against international benchmarks, including comparisons of operational efficiencies and production costs of local and international suppliers.

The study was designed to identify where improvement may be possible in the Australian fresh blood service, and where, internationally, the NBA might look for improvement ideas.

This report represents the NBA’s first systematic examination of these matters – the results will aid understanding of how Australia’s fresh blood product sector is performing over time and in comparison with other countries, and inform future benchmarking and information gathering strategies and activities.
