Consistent with its national responsibilities in relation to standards and information for the blood sector, the National Blood Authority convened a Data Workshop involving participants from throughout the sector.
Its purpose was to define key questions and understand their relevance to improving sector performance, explore the value of existing data sets and define additional data that would contribute to answering these questions, and establish priorities.
The workshop was conducted over two days, using a combination of presentations and discussion, and covered the data needs of four areas of responsibility, being:
Presentations informed participants about developments, resources and research relevant to the blood sector while priming them to consider the questions most important for the blood sector and the data needed to find answers to those questions. They also gave a sense of the fragmentation and patchiness of initiatives within the sector, and of the significant gaps in knowledge affecting both patient care and efficient management.
The following presentations are attached for you to review. The data contained within the presentations must not be used, copied or reproduced in any way without the express permission of the author.
Our consideration of the issues raised and feedback from participants is progressing. The NBA is undertaking further discussions with the Jurisdictional Blood Committee (JBC) and other relevant people and stakeholders to develop strategies to address the agreed priorities.
