The Critical Bleeding/Massive Transfusion module
(3.7MB) is the first in a series of six modules that focus on evidence-based patient blood management. A Technical Report is also available in two parts:
Volume 1 – Review of the Evidence and evidence-based recommendations for clinical practice
(2MB) and
Volume 2 – Appendixes
(3.2MB).
The module was developed by a Clinical/Consumer Reference Group (CRG) representing specialist colleges, organisations and societies, with the active participation of the clinical community.
A Quick Reference Guide
(1.5MB) for clinicians summarises the recommendations that were developed by the CRG based on evidence from a systematic review, and a summary of the practice points that were developed through consensus decision-making. It also includes product information.
A Massive Transfusion Protocol (MTP) template
(0.4MB) has also been developed to accompany the module. This template is available in Powerpoint and is able to be edited by the user. Further information on the development, local adaptation, activation and cessation of a massive transfusion protocol is at chapter 4.10 of the module.
You can order Module 1 – Critical Bleeding/Massive Transfusion and Quick Reference Guide for free by completing an online order request form.
Also available is an online HTML version of the Module.
The National Blood Authority greatly appreciates and acknowledges the input received from the clinical community in producing the Patient Blood Management Guideline. We are pleased to acknowledge that the following organisations have formally endorsed the Critical Bleeding/Massive Transfusion module:
