The Review of the NHMRC/ASBT Clinical Practice Guidelines on Fresh Blood Components (2001) will result in the production of six modules as part of a comprehensive, evidence-based, patient-focused blood management guideline in three phases as follows;

Phase 1
CRG members met on 28th & 29th June to discuss the revised post-consultation draft of the Critical Bleeding/Massive Transfusion module, including changes to the template for a Massive Transfusion Protocol based on public consultation feedback. The next meeting is scheduled for 19 & 20 July, 2010 to achieve sign-off of the post-consultation draft Critical Bleeding/Massive Transfusion module and to finalise the recommendations and practice points related to the Peri-operative module.
It is anticipated that the Peri-operative module will be finalised soon. Future updates will include information on the public consultation commencement date for this module.
Phase 2
CRG members met on in Sydney 3rd & 4th June to develop the research questions for both modules, including clarifying the population, interventions, comparators and outcomes. Questions for background research were also considered. A teleconference is scheduled for 28th July to finalise these questions.
Termination of the NHMRC Guidelines Assessment Register (GAR) Expert Program
The NHMRC terminated their GAR Expert Program on 30th June, 2010. The NHMRC has transitioned the facilitation of guideline development to their National Institute of Clinical Studies (NICS) branch. In order to maintain the quality of guideline development processes and compliance with NHMRC standards, the NBA contracted the current GAR Expert as an independent systematic review adviser.
