Dr Chris Hogan Telephone - 02 6211 8304 Dr Chris Hogan has been appointed as the National Blood Authority’s first Principal Medical Officer. Dr Hogan is a consultant haematologist. He brings to the NBA a long term sub-specialist expertise and experience in Transfusion Medicine, from both a clinical and laboratory perspective. Dr Hogan has a strong relevant hospital-based clinical and laboratory background. He will continue his part time position as consultant haematologist at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. Dr Hogan was an active member of the Victorian Blood Matters Collaborative. He has been a key player in the development of Haemovigilance structures, with the STIR initiative, and more recently with the NBA’s national Haemovigilance Project Working Group. Dr Hogan was previously a regional Transfusion Medicine Specialist with the New Zealand Blood Service, where he gained direct experience with supply issues and the regulatory environment. He is a member of the Education Committee of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Blood Transfusion. Dr Hogan will provide expert medical advice across the breadth of NBA projects and responsibilities. He will also have a key role in championing improvements in the appropriate use of blood and blood products, and improve our awareness of, and preparedness for, the current and future challenges for the blood sector in Australia. Dr Hogan commenced working in this new role with the NBA in August 2008.
