National Blood Supply Contingency Plan

National Managed Fund

The National Managed Fund (NMF) was established by the AHMAC to cover future liability claims made against the ARCBS in relation to the supply of blood and blood products within Australia. The Fund provides a ‘last resort’ mechanism which is primarily intended at the risk of transmission of blood borne disease, which ARCBS is not able to directly insure against. The Fund became effective from 1 July 2000, prior to the establishment of the NBA, and is overseen by the JBC, supported by a specific purpose technical sub-committee called the National Indemnity Reference Group (NIRG). The NBA provides secretariat support to the NIRG. The Australian Government, State and Territory governments and the ARCBS each pay an annual contribution to the National Managed Fund.

The NBA has engaged two contract service providers to assist in the management of the National Managed Fund.
