The IVIg LITERATURE REVIEW (2004)
In 2003, on behalf of all Australia Governments the National Blood Authority (NBA) commissioned a Systematic Literature Review of IVIg Use and its Risks (2004). This document identifies and critically appraises the scientific literature surrounding the efficacy and risks of treatment with IVIg, including existing guidelines that identify the key therapeutic issues in IVIg therapy and dosing regimens. Importantly, the document includes studies comparing IVIg with other treatments, including immunoglobulin administered by other routes when studied in comparison with IVIg.

Guidelines on the prophylactic use of Rh D immunoglobulin (anti-D) in obstetrics - June 2003 (850KB)
This document, produced by the National Blood Authority and approved by the National Health and Medical Research Council, updates previous guidelines on the use of Rh D immunoglobulin (anti-D) released in 1999. It aims to inform clinicians, other health professionals and policy makers about the revised recommendations for use of anti-D in Australia.

Since the release of this document, the National Blood Authority has announced Stage 2 in a three-stage program, which extends routine antenatal prophylaxis to all Rh (D) negative women without preformed antibodies.

Further information on the use of anti-D during pregnancy is available from the Australian Red Cross Blood Service.

This report examines claims that plasma testing positive to the Hepatitis C antibody was used in the manufacture of plasma products for several months in 1990, and recommends the establishment of the National Blood Authority in order to enhance the safety and security of Australia's blood supply.
