RSS 2.0 or Really Simple Syndication is an easy way for websites to share information and to keep clients up to date. It is done by using a small file that is regularly updated and that users can subscribe to, like a newsletter.
When you visit a website that contains an RSS feed a small icon
will usually appear in the address bar of your browser. This icon may also be placed elsewhere on a web page. Clicking on it will normally open the RSS feed page and give you an option to subscribe.
No personal information is required to subscribe to an RSS feed which also makes RSS a safer and more convenient option for many users.
Most major web browsers have all of the functionality required to browse and subscribe to RSS feeds. If your web browser isn't able to open the RSS feed then you may need to download a program referred to as a 'feed aggregator'.
There are many different feed aggregators that can be found using a search engine and you should choose one most suitable to your needs.
Once you have subscribed to an RSS feed you only need to check your feed aggregator to see if there is any updated content. There is no need to return to the original website in order to stay up to date.
